New Catechism Schedule Begins October 5th

The classes will begin an hour before Mass each Sunday.

In a message to Our Lady of Fatima parishioners today, Fr. Sandquist said, “Starting tomorrow, we will plan to do Catechism every Sunday with the kids. It’s mui importante.

“Those preparing for 1st Communion will be instructed by Annette Brouse. Those preparing for Confirmation will be instructed by Casey Geckle. And I will have class with the post-Confirmation students (after Confirmation until about age 18).”

Father continued, “I think this is very important because these children are the future of the Church. We must take this task seriously! I will try to lead and encourage as much as possible. I know it may be difficult, but it will certainly be worth it, I promise! …”

There will be no class for post-Confirmation students on the Sundays that Father goes to the Wichita mission. The other two classes will go on as usual–one hour before Mass.

Father also highlighted how the benefit of the new catechism schedule coordinates perfectly with the children being able to join the parish Rosary after class.

“I think Our Lady will bless our parish if we make greater efforts to all pray the Rosary together on Sundays before Mass,” Father explained.

Listen: Our Lady of Fatima’s Aug. 13 Appearance

Here is an audio excerpt on The Four Marks newspaper site for today’s commemoration of Our Lady’s appearance.  The excerpt is taken from William Thomas Walsh’s book, Our Lady of Fatima.   The Four Marks’ article reminds us that, “We are particularly reminded to pray the Rosary for poor sinners and in reparation for sins committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary and the Sacred Heart of Jesus.”

A Meditation on The Assumption

B780C281-2B90-4A14-9636-6E32A74D7EDDIn Fr. Geckle’s announcements yesterday he reminded us that Wednesday is a holy day of obligation and that even though he will not be able to say Mass for us that day, we are bound to keep it holy, just as if it were a Sunday.

One idea that you might like to try for this great feast is to add a 15-minute Rosary meditation to your devotions.  Father recommended a meditation booklet recently that may be found online.  It’s called “Rosary Meditations for Fatima Saturdays” by Lester Dooley, S.V.D.,  published in 1950.  Here is the archive.org link to it with many download options.  And here is a large text version that you can read on the Catholic Harbor website.   Fr. Dooley’s meditation for the mystery of the Assumption is copied from Catholic Harbor and pasted below: Read more
